East Bengal past Northeast United by 3-1 scoreline
East Bengal defeated Northeast United FC on their third match of Hero Indian Super League and found their first win this season after two matches beaten setback. The scoreline was 3-1, when Stefan Constantine's Red and Gold brigade outplayed the boys of Northeast at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati on Thursday. Charalambos Kyriakou selected for the Man of the match for his standout performance throughout the game.
In early second half, East Bengal double their leads. VP Suhair place a ball for Charalambos Kyriakou, who made a run from defence takes a magnificent shot to beat the opposite keeper Arindam. In 84th minute, East Bengal strike again on counter attack, this time it was Jordan O'Doherty, who scores a simple shot from a through pass made by Mobashir. And Northeast found a compensation goal in the extra time. Matt Derbyshire scored the goal by a thumping header from Emil Benny's corner kick. The Highlanders also had some other chances when East Bengal goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh being a wall upon them.
Finally East Bengal's train back on track after finding the first win of the season, after some controversies in Coaches plans. Now they will focus on 29th October for the first Kolkata Derby of Hero ISL against ATK Mohun Bagan at Saltlake Stadium, Kolkata.
