Bengaluru FC - the new Durand Cup Champions

Bengaluru FC made history in Indian football after winning 131st prestigious tournament Indian Oil Durand Cup, today at Saltlake Stadium in Kolkata by defeating another Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC by 2-1 scoreline. Bengaluru takes the win after a 90 minutes intense fight in Salt Lake pitch. Head Coach Simon Grayson wins his first trophy with the club in his first tournament in India. Bengaluru has completed a comeback to winning campaign again after their some hard ISL season.

Bengaluru FC takes the lead in 11th minute through Sivashakti who continues his dream run in this high voltage Durand Final. He beats Moutorda Fall and puts the ball over Purba Lachenpa to find the net. But Mumbai City didn't take much time to find the equaliser. In the first quarter of the game Greg Stewart takes a shot on target, shot saved by Bengaluru goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and in second ball Apuia sends the ball into the net. In 38th minute Bengaluru almost takes the lead again, when Roy Krishna plays it inside Mumbai City box and the young man Sivashakti made a shot on deflection by Lalrinzuala Chhangte saves it from goal line. Once Greg Stewart place a through pass for Vinit Rai who takes a shot above the goalpost. And the first half ends with 1-1 scoreline. 

In the starting minutes of Lalrinzuala Chhangte had a curling ball in Bengaluru box, but he failed to place a shot on target. And in next Roy Krishna picks a miss pass and take a powerful shot towards goal but it deflected by defender Rostyn. Sunil Chhetri's first chance came in 59th in one on one position with goalkeeper, released a shot but it saved by Purba Lachenpa. And in the next corner kick Bengaluru takes the lead again, goal scored by defender Alan Costa from a thumping header. After some time Sunil Chhetri takes another long ranger but it goes off target. In 76th minute Alberto Noguera mada a beautiful run towards Bengaluru box and takes a shot which hit the post. Once substitute player Gurkirat Singh found offside. Again in 86th minute Sivashakti placed a fine pass to Sunil Chhetri and again Chhetri's shot saved by Purba Lachenpa. Greg Stewart takes a off target shot in extra time and failed to score goal from free kick in the last minute of the match.

Sivashakti, what a player, Indian National Team coach Igor Stimac's eye must be on him after his successful Durand Cup journey. And Mumbai City stops their journey in Durand Cup final in it's maiden season, will be looking to improve their performance in the upcoming ISL season.
