ATK Mohun Bagan beats East Bengal in the first Derby of the season

The first Derby match of the season comes to an end in favour of ATK Mohun Bagan as they won the match by 1-0 scoreline at Saltlake Stadium, Kolkata. East Bengal lacked in the final third passes in the attacking area through the whole match. However, their performance in defence was quite good to hold ATK Mohun Bagan on that scoreline.

In the first half, ATK Mohun Bagan had the maximum possession on ball, created some goal scoring chances, but failed to capitalise the goal until 46th minute. The first goal of the Derby came from an own goal by Sumeet Passi. ATK Mohun Bagan's Liston Colaco takes a corner kick in a dangerous possession of East Bengal's defence, and the ball goes on to goal from Sumeet Passi's body touches. Also, Hugo Boumous and Carl Machugh was shown yellow card by the referee in the first half.
East Bengal first chance came in around 40th minute when Eliandro had the chance to score goal in box area of ATK Mohun Bagan. Also, the positive point of East Bengal from the first half is that Charalambos Kyriakou and Ivan Gonzalez played some brave defensive tackle to deny the opposition players.

In the second half, Ashique Kuruniyan had the chance to score a goal from one to one position, but he was denied by East Bengal goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh. Once Ashish Rai had the chance of scoring goal while playing one to one passes with Joni Kauko, but he shoot the ball outside the net, the same story also for Kiyan Nassiri. Ivan Gonzalez and Ashish Rai was shown yellow card in the second half for their desperate tackles. East Bengal once had the chance in second half, when defender Charalambos Kyriakou picks the ball from the defence and made a run in right flank and made a cross for Cleiton Silva, but Cleiton failed to score goal.

 ATK Mohun Bagan holds the maximum possession on the ball throughout the game. They misses plenty of chances, but at least they find a win in their third match of Durand Cup 2022. On the other hand East Bengal has to progress in their attacking passes, crosses and link up playing ability in the future. 

As things stand, ATK Mohun Bagan stand in 3rd position in group B with 4 points after a win and a draw in thei Durand Cup campaign. And East Bengal stands in 4th position in the same group with 2 points in hand.
