Indian Super League, the most popular football tournament in India, has crossed an 8 years milestone with many popular world class players and exciting events. However, if we choose all time Indian Super League XI till now, there will be many players to remember. But some of them are widely known for their standout performances in the Indian Super League. Now, we will choose the top 11 players, who have the ability to be in the all time Indian Super League XI.
The players are - Gurpreet Singh Sandhu ( GK ) , Sandesh Jhingan , Tiri , Harmanjot Singh Khabra, Akash Mishra, Hugo Boumous, Lalenmawia Ralte , Borja Fernandez, Sunil Chhetri, Ferran Corominas , Jeje Lalpekhlua.
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu - The star Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu joined Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC in 2017 from Norwegian top division club Stabaek. He was awarded the Golden Glove of Indian Super League two times, in 2018-19, 2019-20 season. Under the jersey of Bengaluru FC, Gurpreet played two ISL final matches, in which in 2018-19 season Bengaluru FC won the Indian Super League. He becomes the regular first team goalkeeper for both Bengaluru FC and Indian National Team for his standout performance over the years. He played a total 92 matches for Bengaluru FC so far and also will play for them in the upcoming ISL season. Over the years, he played a critical role beneath the bar for Bengaluru FC. Currently he holds the second most clean sheets in the tournament with a total of 32 clean sheets. So , he will be the right choice if we put him into the Indian Super League all time XI.
Sandesh Jhingan - The 29 year old Indian centre back Sandesh Jhingan debuted in the Indian Super League with Kerala Blasters in the inaugural ISL season in 2014. He played a total of 78 matches for Kerala Blasters till 2020, played for Bengaluru FC on loan in 2017. And later in 2020-21, 2021-22 season he played for another Indian Super League side ATK Mohun Bagan. He played total 3 ISL finals - two with Kerala Blasters and one with ATK Mohun Bagan. He won the Indian Super League emerging player of the season in 2014 and AIFF player of the year in 2020-21. For his emerging performance in the Indian Super League he played regularly for the National Team. He made a special appearance in the heart of his fans from his shot stopping ability. In the upcoming season he will play for Bengaluru FC in Indian Super League.
Tiri - The Spanish defender Jose Luis Espinosa Arroyo, known as Tiri , played for ATK , ATK Mohun Bagan and Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League. He won the Indian Super League title in 2016 with ATK FC. He is one of the best foreign defenders to play in India. He made his debut in ISL with ATK in 2015. Later he played for Jamshedpur FC (2017-2020), and from 2020 he plays for ATK Mohun Bagan. Under former ATK Mohun Bagan Head Coach Habas, he and Sandesh Jhingan were known for their partnership in the defence area. Tiri , best known for his physical appearances in the field and timely tackles, he is one of the most-capped foreign player in the history of the competition.
Harmanjot Singh Khabra - The versatile player Harmanjot Singh Khabra, has played for Chennaiyin FC, Bengaluru FC, Kerala Blasters throughout his Indian Super League career. He is best known for his ability to play in multiple positions like winger, midfielder or even as a full back. He won the Indian Super League title 2 times - first with Chennaiyin FC in 2015 and second with Bengaluru FC in 2018-19. He played an integral part in Bengaluru and Kerala's success in the Indian Super League in the past years. He is the fourth most-capped player in the Indian Super League history.
Akash Mishra - The younger Indian left back Akash Mishra played for Hyderabad FC in the last two ISL seasons. Although he played only two seasons in the Indian Super League I will consider him in the position of left back in the all time Indian Super League XI. He had played a vital asset in the role of left back for Hyderabad FC in the past two years. He helped Hyderabad FC to win the 2021-22 ISL season. He has the ability to start the attack from the defence to the attacking third. He also has the ability to score goals when it is needed most.
Hugo Boumous - The 27 year old French - Moroccan midfielder Hugo Boumous has played the last five Indian Super League editions. He is known as the best player in ISL history for his link-up play and calm finishing skills. He played for FC Goa, Mumbai City and ATK Mohun Bagan throughout his ISL career. He won the Indian Super League Golden Ball in 2019-20. He won the Indian Super League with FC Goa in 2019-20 and 2020-21 with Mumbai City. He played a total of 75 matches and scored 24 goals in his whole Indian Super League career. In the upcoming season, he will play for ATK Mohun Bagan in the tournament.
Lalenmawia Ralte - The 21 year old Indian midfielder Lalenmawia Ralte, known as Apuia has played the last three Indian Super League editions - first two seasons with Northeast United and the third season with Mumbai City. He is the younger player in the history of Indian Super League to wear the captain armband. For his standout performance, he was awarded as the Indian Super League emerging player of the season in 2020-21. If everything goes well, in the future he will be the best Indian midfielder in the Indian Super League.
Borja Fernandez - The Spaniard, Borja Fernandez had won ISL title two times with ATK. He played the first three seasons in the Indian Super League from 2014-16. He is the first foreign signing in the league ever. He went on to win the inaugural ISL title in 2014. Again in 2016, he won that again. In his time with ATK, he played a deeper midfield role in the Indian Super League.
Sunil Chhetri - The greatest Indian footballer of all time, Sunil Chhetri will be the right choice in all time ISL XI. In the tournament, he played for both Bengaluru and Mumbai City. He won the ISL title in 2018-19. He is the highest Indian goalscorer ever in the history of the tournament with 51 goals. He was awarded as the Hero of ISL in 2017-18.
Ferran Corominas - The Spanish forward Ferran Corominas, known as Coro, played three seasons in ISL from 2017-20 with FC Goa. But only in three seasons he scored 48 goals in 57 matches and became the third highest goalscorer in the history of the tournament. He also holds the record of most goals scored in a single season, by scoring 18 goals in the 2017-18 season. In 2019-20 season, he won ISL Shield winners and won ISL Golden Boot two times ( 2017-18, 2018-19 )
Jeje Lalpekhlua - The Mizo Sniper, Jeje is one of the best Indian footballers in the recent past years. He is the second highest Indian goalscorer in the history of the competition. He is the highest goalscorer for Chennaiyin FC. He won the ISL title two times ( 2015, 2017-18 ) with Chennaiyin FC. He scored a total of 24 goals in the Indian Super League.
