Five Things East Bengal needs to do to have a successful ISL season

The Kolkata Giants Emami East Bengal all set to play their third Indian Super League season. They announced a lot of signings including six foreigners for the upcoming football season. In the last two editions of Indian Super League, East Bengal's performance was none other than a disaster. In the last season they ends their Indian Super League journey in the bottom of the table.

This year, East Bengal appointed ex Indian International Stephen Constantine as their new head coach. And the Santosh Trophy winner coach Bino Geroge will assist Constantine in the upcoming Indian Super League. Now we will tell you the five things East Bengal needs to do to have a successful ISL season.

1. Goalkeeping - Last year East Bengal lacked goalkeepers performance throughout the season. From Arindam Bhattacharjee to Sankar Roy everyone made many mistakes beneath the bar. So, the first point is that East Bengal need a good goalkeeper for the upcoming ISL season, who will give assurance to the defenders in tight situations. And East Bengal already made a good signing in this position. Kamaljit Singh, the ex Odisha FC goalkeeper, will be the first choice goalkeeper for East Bengal under head coach Stephen Constantine. If we look into the reserve goalkeepers this season, East Bengal made the signing of Naveen Kumar ( on loan from FC Goa ) and Pawan. The two senior goalkeepers are there. Kamaljit Singh is already a good choice for that position, but if he gets injured, the two players Pawan and Naveen are there to handle the position.

2. Full Backs - Head Coach Stephen Constantine is a defensive minded coach. He mainly plays on counter attacks. In that position last year, there was Hira Mondal - who gave a good performance for East Bengal. But this year there are no Hira Mondal. So East Bengal needs skillful full backs, who can cross, make final third passes, and score goals in time when needed. This year, East Bengal has Ankit Mukherjee and Mohammad Rakip, Jerry Lalrinzuala in that position. Hope that Ankit, Rakip and Jerry will be able to make good performances on the field of Indian Super League.

3. Central Defence - In the last two seasons, East Bengal lacked their performance in the central defence area. They had conceded many goals for their defensive faults. This year East Bengal needs a solid centre back pair, which will give the confidence to the team to play freely. Already told that, Stephen Constantine is a defensive minded coach. So it will be very joyful to see how Constantine uses his defenders and play with which formation ? The preferred formation of Constantine is 3-5-2. So it will be very interesting to see if he will go with his preferred formation or not. For the upcoming ISL season, East Bengal already signed Cyprus International Charalambos Kyriakou, Ivan Gonzalez, Sarthak Golui, Pritam Kumar in this position. So, it is clear that Charalambos Kyriakou and Ivan Gonzalez will be the new centre back pairs for East Bengal in the upcoming Indian Super League season.

4. Midfield- In the last two editions of Indian Super League, East Bengal don't have any skillful midfielder who can make the attack and give final passes to the forwards. East Bengal needs midfielders who can link up play from defence to attacking area and make good chances for scoring goals. This year, East Bengal already signed many good players in this position like Souvik Chakraborty - who won ISL title last season with Hyderabad FC, Alex Lima - who won ISL League Shield with Jamshedpur FC last season, Mobashir Rahaman from Northeast United, Jordan O'Doherty, Wahengbam Angousana. So East Bengal has a strong midfield this season which can challenge any Indian Super League teams.

5. Forwards - In the forward position East Bengal is always in a disaster. They lacked their performance in scoring goals, creating chances, and battling for second balls in the past seasons. But this year, East Bengal has Cleiton Silva, Eliandro dos Santos, Sumeet Passi like experienced strikers and Himangshu Jhangra like young talents. Cleiton Silva, the ex Bengaluru FC striker will be the first choice striker for head coach Stephen Constantine. He already proved his importance and his ability in the Indian Super League. So he will play a crucial role to score goals for East Bengal in the upcoming Indian Super League. So , East Bengal needs to play more passes in the attacking area to score goals.
