Mumbai City enters Durand Cup semi final in style

In the third quarter final of ongoing Durand Cup 2022, Mumbai City defeated Chennaiyin FC by 5-3 to keep up their journey towards prestigious Durand Cup trophy. At Saltlake Stadium, Kolkata the match played for 120 minutes after having equalised in 90th minute. Greg Stewart send Mumbai City to semifinals by scoring a first hattrick for them.

In the starting of the match, Kwame Karikari takes a long ranger shot towards Mumbai City goal, but it saved by goalkeeper Purba Lachenpa. Then in 40th minute Mumbai City midfielder Ahmed Jahouh takes a pass to Amay Ranawade towards Chennaiyin goal and this time goalkeeper Debjit Majumder made a mistake. He fouled Amay Ranawade and Mumbai City takes the lead through penalty, goal scored by Greg Stewart. Also, referee showed yellow card to young Chennaiyin midfielder Sajal Bag for his desparate tackle.  

But Chennaiyin FC returned to match by scoring the equaliser in 59th minute. Ninthoi placed a phenomenal cross in Mumbai City box and Peter Silskovic send it to goal through header in the top corner. But in 77th minute Mumbai City strikes again. The top scorer of ongoing Durand Cup, Lalrinzuala Chhangte scored his 6th goal this time from a second chance made by Bipin Singh. After some time substitute man Rowlin Borges take a beautiful pass to Chhangte again but he didn't place the ball rightly for Gurkirat Singh. And in 89th minute Chennaiyin substitute player Jockson scored the equaliser again by a first time finish, this cross again made by Ninthoi. In 93th minute Ninthoi had the chance to score goal, but he couldn't make a shot on target. In extra time Chhangte scored again. He proves his importance in this Mumbai City team again. Again after some time Greg Stewart strikes again. He cuts in box area of Chennaiyin and took a shot on goal and beats Debjit Majumder. In 111th minute Rahim Ali strikes for Chennaiyin. Thapa place a cross from corner kick and Rahim Ali scored a bullet shot. The man Greg Stewart made his hattrick in 117th minute by a calm finish. 

Al last the match ends. Chennaiyin ends their journey of Durand Cup, they will look to improve their performance in the upcoming Indian Super League season.
